I wanted to be able to annotate our paper map* with our overnight stops and maybe some key places we are visiting en route, but didn't want to draw all over the map. I also wanted to minimise the amount of map that I blotted out, so opaque stickers were out too.
This is the result, which I am quite chuffed with:
* Yep, we're taking a real map - no proper adventurer relies solely on digital maps. I chose the Rand McNally Large Scale 2018 Road Atlas.
