We'd read online that you can't do all 3 attractions in one day: we did and had it not been for the huge queue at Ruby Falls due to us going on Memorial Weekend, we would have finished all 3 by early afternoon and would have had time to explore downtown Chattanooga.
We arrived early for the Incline Railway so there was no queue. We went up, looked at the view and then came down again. There are a couple of parks up the top of the Incline Railway but we wanted to get to the next attraction! And it was quite cloudy!
Next, we planned to go to Ruby Falls, a huge underground waterfall, but when we arrived the parking lot was full and we were directed on to Rock City. So we went to Rock City next instead. This place was a lot of fun, its basically a park around the rocks with the odd gnome, amazing views and a lovely waterfall. Some of the trails involved tight squeezes between rocks, I wonder if they end up with larger people getting stuck. Luckily, we haven't eaten too many chicken wings and burgers yet so we just about fitted!
We then tried Ruby Falls again just after lunch. We managed to park but then queued, and queued and queued. First there was an outside queue which took about an hour to get through the main entrance. Once we were finally inside, we thought we were there but then turned the corner to hit another queue which took another hour!
When we finally reached the front, we went on the mile long tour of the caverns and then finally to the waterfall itself. It was impressive and worth the wait although I would never recommend doing anything on Memorial Weekend if you don't like queuing and crowds!
At the end of our day, we drove to Atlanta. A very boring drive down the freeway but it was cool recognising some of the Atlanta skyline that we had previously seen on The Walking Dead.
If you're wondering about the red roofs in the video with 'See Rock City' on them, they are everywhere in Chattanooga. Property owners were offered for their barns to be painted for free if the slogan 'See Rock City' could be painted in white on the roof. This was a 1935 advertising campaign which has continued on to this day.
As always great video’s Incline Railway reminded me a lot of Rigibahn up to Rigi Blick. 😘😘
ReplyDeleteBrilliant video, you were both in very playful mood and very funny you certainly packed a lot into the day and it did look the busiest of your trip so far.
ReplyDeleteThanks also for the Sunglasses update, I did spot that you were sporting 2 diff pairs and didn't now why. While we are on it, what is the green bag that sits in between the two seats in your trunk?
Some great still photos of the whole day through out the video, particularly liked the look out mountain and incline railway pics
The incline was defo reminiscent of Rigi Blick and very cool
Rock City garden had some great moments, the shuffling between the rocks, the bouncy bridge, Lee's slipping into a southern accent and the lovers leap falls.
Great track to accompany the Ruby falls segment. I could see the resemblance for most rock formations and steak and pots was the best, But I couldn't see 'bacon'. The falls itself wasn't what I was expecting but it was really good, especially with the lights on it. It reminded me of something in particular too but I'm not gonna post it here (PM me hun) text to follow).
Going into Atlanta, I like that we catch Lee in dismissive mode saying 'great driving'
Keep it going.
