We don't normally dedicate a whole blog entry to a campsite but we thought that Elk Creek in Grand Lake was exceptional.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the campsite hosts and then I asked a question about a cable we have been trying to get for the electric cooler. The campsite owner, Donald, was called over. He really went out of his way to try to find a solution to our cable issue and whilst he didn't have the cable we needed, we had a fresh idea of what we could do.
The campsite itself was lovely, there was a good shop with fresh coffee in the morning (very much needed!), a games room, a club house (although sadly we had missed the bingo), a laundry room, an impressive kids play area (we were too big to try this out!) and super clean toilets and showers which for once, were sized for the campsite so there were never any queues!
The tent camping area was lovely too. We had to walk over a little creek to get to our pitch and although it was in the middle of a large campground, it felt really secluded with only a couple of other tent campers for our neighbours.
Once pitched, we cooked pork and some veggies on the propane. We even managed to have one of the giant marshmallows!
After dinner we went for a little walk around the campsite, we were looking for the resident moose but we didn't manage to find him. Instead we found the carp pond, some of the cabins also available at the campsite and a tipi.
The Dean Family have done a wonderful job on this campsite and I really hope we manage to stay with them again.
A nice change of blog post to hear about a campsite and the pics looked great. Glad that you found a campsite you really liked and it was nice to get a bit more of a feel for what your camping experience is like - food and facilities looked and sounded great!!
