After spending so much time driving past fields of corn, it had a nice change to drive past dairy farms. Wisconsin is known as the Dairy State, after so long struggling to find decent cheese, we were both looking forward to tasting some strong cheddar or a good blue.
We pulled into Milwaukee and took the drive which ran alongside the lake shore. The first thing we noticed was how green this city was. There seemed to be loads of parks, gardens and green areas. We pulled into a car park and strolled along the beach, it was beautiful. It's difficult to remember that this is just a huge lake, it feels like a beach along the Panhandle with the crystal clear water, soft waves and the sand between our toes.
At the end of Lake Drive, we turned into the city and took a drive past the iconic water tower and then through downtown. We were impressed with how much there was to see in downtown, you would need a couple of days to explore it properly.
The traffic was surprisingly better than we had thought it would be. We got stuck in a jam just a couple of miles from the hotel but asides from that, the Interstates were strangely quiet for a major city, maybe we were just lucky.
Read the sign about the Drumlins but I didn't see any pictures of them in your entry so I googled some images instead.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the building in the 4th pic, it looks quite impressive.
I really like the look of Milwaukee, as you say lots of greenery, parks and then being by the water is great and the pics do give the impression it is a place well worth coming back to for proper exploration.
There are some great buildings/architecture and the water tower is brilliant, can you go inside for a look around?
Lunch looked nice and the weather was good, a brief visit but some cool photos.
