Day 6 & Day 7 Key West, FL

We arrived in Key West and checked into our awesome hotel before hitting the pool for Happy Hour - 50% off beer, free spirits, free wine and these yummy crunchy things with peanut butter inside, an hour was just not long enough!

We then walked down to Duval Street for some dinner and to try out a couple of recommended bars. When we got there, it was a huge party with every bar playing live music and a big stage in the street for a live concert. We had arrived during the Song Writers Festival! 5 nights of live music with over 200 performers. We checked out a couple of bars and then listened to Walker Haynes and Tyler Farr on the main stage. We’ve created a montage our of time listening to music at this festival, we may have had a few beers and then had deep fried Conch Fritters for dinner, it wasn't the night we planned but we had an awesome time.

The Sunday started off as a slow day. We had planned to check out Lazy Dog Paddle Boarding which was a recommendation from Ali but it rained and rained and rained, we turned up for breakfast next door looking like we'd just had a swim in the pool! The local news said that we were experiencing a 'tropical disturbance' that had potential to become a tropical storm, good thing we are heading North!

When the rain finally cleared around lunchtime, we went exploring around Key West, including revisiting the beach where Lee got down on two knees (one wasn't good enough) to propose to me 8 years ago.

We also saw Southernmost Point, although we couldn't be bothered to join the massive queue to have a picture taken so just did a quick selfie:

Route 1 End, Mile Marker 0 - Also the end of the rainbow... apparently although there was definitely no pot of gold!

Memorial Sculpture Garden

The LGBT+ area with lots of interesting bars

The Butterfly Garden

We also found some Key West Chickens (also known as Gypsy Chickens), which wasn't difficult as they were everywhere... walking down the street, in the road, going into cafes and bars, perching in trees and enjoying the sights of Key West just like us!

We then hit Mallory Square for the sunset which given how cloudy it was, there was no way we were ever going to see the sun, we had more chance of seeing a lighting bolt!

After such a busy day, we needed to relax so we headed to the hotel pool in the evening for hot tub and beers.

  1. I am loving the little videos of your trip and the music festival vid has to be my fave so far. Some good tunes and like the bit where you are clearly 'a bit tipsy'.

Hotel and pool look great too, has a movie feel to it.

    Keep going with the posts
