Day 25 - First Night in Nashville, TN

Nashville has been awesome! Our favourite music city but that is probably because Lee loves Country Music and I love Cowgirl boots!

We stayed in a Fairfield Inn in The Gulch, an old industrial area which is becoming hip and arty. The night we arrived, we decided to stay around The Gulch and check out the local bars and restaurants. We started off by visiting the hotels roof bar where we watched the sunset over the Nashville skyline.

We then headed over the road to a restaurant called Party Fowl which severs a Nashville specialty, hot chicken!

There are 5 levels of hotness to choose from: Southern Fried, Mild, Medium, Nashville Hot and Poultrygeist. I played it safe and went for Medium, Lee chose the hottest Poultrygeist. He should have know this was a mistake when the waitress asked 3 times if he was sure he wanted his chicken this hot. It didn't help the situation either that Lee assured her 3 times that he could handle his heat and the Hooters 911 wings were a breeze for him. The chicken was spicy! For those who know the story, it was a spicy as the chili Lee had at the cider and chili festival in Basingstoke and that ended very badly! He started off by trying to look like the heat didn't matter but not long after the first few bites, his eyes were red, sweat was running down his face and he was drinking beer quicker than the bar lady could pour it! My medium chicken was hot, probably about the same heat as the hottest Nando's chicken so I could only guess how lot Lee's was in comparison!

After dinner, we went over the road to a bar called Pour House for some further beer to cool off Lee's burning insides and a couple of very large Fireballs for me. We met some great people here, some who were local and gave us hints and tips on what to see in Nashville and some from out of town who gave us some ideas on places to see in their hometowns.

Our 'quiet night' ended up not being quite the quiet night we planned, we both staggered to the hotel (which was luckily next door) and hoped the hangover wasn't going to be too bad the next day! Hopefully the free breakfast would be a good cure!
